Cleaning for a Reason

2 Green Chicks supports Cleaning for a Reason by providing FREE cleanings for women up to 4 months while they are undergoing treatment.

More about this great organization: Fighting cancer is difficult enough, but living with it is even tougher and that’s where Cleaning For A Reason steps in. As a nonprofit serving the entire United States and Canada, we partner with maid services to offer professional house cleanings to help women undergoing treatment for cancer, any type of cancer. To date, we have provided more than 17,000 cleanings for women with cancer with a value of more than $4 million in donated cleanings, and partnered with over 1000 maid services.

Leadership Norman 2016

1st-Day-Group-Pic-300x159Amy was selected to participate in the Leadership Norman 2016 program. This was such an honor to be chosen so Amy could learn about this wonderful town in which we live and help educate her chicks and her clients.

Leadership Norman is open to anyone who either works or lives in Norman. Co-chaired by Shelly Hickman, Stand for Children Oklahoma and Kevin Hopper, MidFirst Bank, the class consists of 13 interactive sessions, spanning an eight-month period, ending with graduation in April. Throughout the course of the program participants attend a variety of sessions focused on community history, current community issues, leadership, and self-discovery. Leadership Norman is a great way to learn more about your community and build your own personal network.

Eggstravaganza

P11702851-300x2002 Green Chicks also loves supporting the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. We provided a fun craft table for the kids to create a caterpillar! Here are the details of the event so make sure you make it next year! Complimentary museum admission, games, crafts, photos with the bunny and, of course, an egg hunt of Jurassic proportions are among activities scheduled during Eggstravaganza.

Indoor activities will include the famous Dino Prize Walk, face painting by OU JCPenney Leadership student volunteers, a hatching egg craft, butterfly garden community art wall, and “Discovery Tables” to explore museum specimens. The museum galleries and exhibits will be available for visitors to explore.

Families and children are invited to pose for pictures with the celebratory bunny. Individuals may take their own photos at no charge. However, professional photos can be purchased on-site for $5. Museum mascots Spike and Slash also will be in attendance.

Outdoor activities will include a Pentaceratops ring toss, Saurophaganax beanbag toss, pick-a-duck and dig-a-dino. Three egg hunts, featuring a record 10,000 eggs, will be held on the museum’s south grounds for age groups 0-3, 4-6 and 7+.

Browse a wide variety of unique gifts, one-of-a-kind jewelry, home and office décor, and children’s toys at Excavations, the museum store, during the event.

Eggstravaganza is sponsored by 2 Green Chicks and is produced in partnership with the JCPenney Leadership Program in the OU Michael F. Price College of Business. Students from the OU JCPenney Leadership Program assist with planning and staffing of the event.

The Sam Noble Museum is located on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus at Timberdell Road and Chautauqua Avenue. For accommodations on the basis of disability, call (405) 325-4712 or visit the website here

Norman High Teacher Feature

After Amy completed the Leadership Norman program in April 2016, she still wanted to give back to her community.  She learned about the “Partners in Education” program and immediately contacted Scott Beck, principal of Norman High.  After discussion with Scott, the one thing they agreed that teachers could use in their lives was TIME!  So what better gift than to have Amy and her chicks come and clean their house!  So each month starting in April 2016 teachers nominate their peers and the chicks select the most deserving for that month (and boy it’s HARD!).  Amy attends the teacher meeting for that month and presents a free 2 hour cleaning and coffee mug to the winning teacher.  Each recipient has been so excited to receive such a great gift – their time!!

Thank you teachers and thank you Scott for such a great opportunity to partner and give back to our community!

Earth Day

earthday-300x1532 Green Chicks has participated in Norman’s Earth Day festival since 2012. Our message to festival goers is the importance of using toxic free chemicals in their own homes to protect their family and pets. Demonstrations and information pertaining to Earth friendly cleaning are provided to educate patrons. We even have word searches, coloring pages and a kids craft to keep the little ones happy!

Earth Day was first held in the United States on April 22, 1970. The first Earth Day led to the creation of the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts. In 2000, a group of Norman Organizations concerned about the environment came together to create what was formerly knows as Kids for Kindness Day. Earth Day in Norman is usually celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in April.

Norman’s Earth Day is held in Reaves Park, located at 2501 S. Jenkins. State agencies, local organizations and city departments come together to provide fun family activities teaching the importance of protecting our Earth’s air, water, forest, wildlife and all natural resources.
