Grandma and Grandpa knew some great home tricks to save time, money, and effort. Here are a few of our favorites.
Homemade Humidifier
Fight the dryness of winter with a homemade humidifier. Place a pan of water on the stove and add cinnamon sticks and potpourri to make your home smell good.
A Quick Furniture Polish
When your furniture, cabinets, or wood trim shows nicks and scratches, use peanut or pecan oil to re-stain the wood. Shoe polish also works if you have that on hand.
Easy Duster
You can slip an old sock onto a fly swatter to dust under furniture and hard to reach places. This is an excellent use for those lonely socks that come out of the dryer.
You can also slip a pillowcase over a ceiling fan blade to remove and contain dust. Put a little bit of car wax on your air vents to prevent dust from building up there altogether!
Stop the Fog
Use canned shaving cream to clean your bathroom mirror glasses to keep them from fogging up. You can also clean your glasses with soapy water to keep them from fogging up when you are wearing a mask.
Squeaky Hinges
You can use Crisco to oil the squeaky hinges on the doors around your home.
Foiled Again
Foil has a couple of good uses beyond storing food. You can sharpen scissors by folding aluminum foil and then cutting the foil using the full blade. Foil can also be used to scrub pots or the grill.
