June Cleaning Checklist

Posted on

It’s officially summer – school is out, and the pool is open!  Even though we would rather be vacationing by the beach, those annual chores need to be done. The problem with annual chores is that we tend to forget them at least once a year.  Here are some cleaning items for June!

The Medicine Cabinet

Check the expiration date on aspirin or any other medication that you tend to store and forget.  Get rid of everything that is expired and put refills on the grocery list.

Fluffy and Plastic Things

While the kids are at camp or grandma’s house, launder all of their stuffed toys and wipe down plastic toys with an antibacterial wipe.

Photo Clean up

Now is a good time to refresh some family photos around the house.  You have a whole year of pictures to choose from! While you are looking for the good ones, make sure and delete pictures that are blurry or didn’t turn out.

Clean Out the Gutters

While most people clean out their gutters in the fall, all of this Spring weather may have filled your gutters with debris.  In the Spring, gutters can be full of oak tassels, seed pods, ragweed, and little helicopters. Gutter cleaning may be one the chore you want to hire out and now is a good time to do it.

Get the Kids Involved

My mom used to clean out everything under my bed, on the floor, and in the closet.  She would put it in a big pile in the middle of the room, and I had to put everything in its place, the trash, or the Goodwill box. Whatever was not picked up by the end of the week went in the trash.  I hated this as a kid but looking back it was really helpful!
