7 Ways to Prepare for Entertaining this Football Season

Posted on

Having friends over for a game this fall?  Here are some ideas to be ready to entertain.

Clean house the day before

Before entertaining, focus on cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen. It is a good idea to put away random or breakable knick-knacks to clear space and reduce the opportunity for accidents. You know that friend that would actually bring a football to throw around the house!

Stock up on adult beverages

Beer is a staple for watching football! Have a selection of domestic, foreign, and craft beer to spice things up. Personal party planners estimate that the average person will drink two beers per hour and an average football game is about three hours.  If you don’t have enough room in the fridge, break out a cooler.  Make sure everyone is safe to drive before leaving!

Play a great playlist ready at halftime

During breaks or halftime, you can play some music to entertain your guests.  You can make your own or Spotify has a great playlist that starts with Boomer Sooner here.

Focus on the bathroom

Expect a lot of foot traffic to the bathroom during and after the game.  Make sure that you stock up on toilet paper, supply lots of hand soap, and set out a few cans of air freshener.

Have plenty of seating

The couch can’t fit everyone!  Place dining room chairs, bar stools, folding chairs, and footrests around the TV.  You can rearrange the living room a little so that everyone can see the main attraction.

Let the games begin

People always enjoy taking a risk at football parties.  You can set up a simple betting board with a ten by ten square grid with one team written on the top and one written on the side.  Sell each square for a set amount of money ($1 or $5 is good).  Numbers 0 to 9 are randomly assigned across rows and columns after bets are placed.  The numbers beside each team name represent the last digit in the score for that team. At the end of each quarter or the end of the game, award winnings.  If your group doesn’t like to gamble, you can give everyone 2 or three squares and award fun prizes to the winners!

Don’t forget games for the kids too!  You can print off a gameday bingo card, have a bean bag game set up in the backyard, or put a movie on in the spare room.

Back up snacks

By the 4th quarter, your quests may be burned out on barbecue or wings.  Have some light snacks, like chips or cookies, to set out toward the end of the party.
