ow to make your home smell like fall

Ready for fall?  Here are some ideas to make your house smell like autumn!

Set up a simmer pot

Just fill up a saucepan with water, bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat.  You can add cinnamon sticks, cloves, apple slices or juice, orange peels, vanilla extract, pine needles, bay leaves, lavender, mint, cranberries, nutmeg, rosemary, lemon peels, or essential oils like tea tree oil.  You can simmer all day and top off the water when needed.

Use an essential oil diffuser

Essential oils have become very popular.  If you don’t have a diffuser, you can buy them on Amazon or many home stores.  You can read more here about other benefits of an essential oil diffuser. Some of the best scents for fall are anise, cardamom, cedarwood, cinnamon, clove, ginger, nutmeg, orange, pine, rosemary, sage, and vanilla.

Make our own incense

You can use spices like cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and combine grated orange and lemon peels for a quick and easy light incense.

Use those cooking skills

Baking a pumpkin or apple pie will make your house smell amazing, and you have a delicious snack to eat or share with a neighbor!

Fall. Candles.

There is no shortage of amazing fall scented candles at Target.   Bath & Body Works actually have a fragrance named Autumn!  You can buy them or make your own with mason jars, soy wax, and essential oils.

Fall scented room sprays

Glade has some wonderful fall scents, but if you want to avoid the chemicals that come with commercial air sprays, you can make your own.  For a pumpkin spice scent, add cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, and orange essential oils to filtered water in a spray bottle, spray, and enjoy! (to prevent the oil from clogging in the sprayer – put a few drops of vodka in it!)

Carpet freshener

Mix baking soda, borax, and your favorite fall essential oils (I recommend cinnamon).  Sprinkle on your carpet and leave on for 20 minutes then vacuum up.

Yummy fall coffees

The pumpkin spice latte gets most of the attention in fall, but a nice homemade cup of hazelnut coffee will warm you up on a fall night and make the house smell fantastic.

But speaking of pumpkin spice….

You can mix brown sugar and coconut oil until crumbly and then add pumpkin spice and cinnamon for a pumpkin spice body scrub.  At the end of your shower, exfoliate with the scrub and then rinse off.
