Kick the Winter Blues with a Deep Clean

Posted on

You have heard of spring cleaning, but do you know about winter cleaning?  Below are our favorite activities for when you are snowed in and hunkered down. You can always hire the Chicks to take care of some of these tasks too!

Clean Behind the fridge

At least once a year, you should pull your fridge away from the wall to clean the walls, floor, and refrigerator coils.  Dirty coils can damage your refrigerator and waste energy. Consult your refrigerator manual to learn how to clean the coils on your model (you can google the manual if you don’t have it anymore).

Clean the Dryer Vents

Lint buildup can reduce dryer efficiency and is also a fire hazard.  Make sure and clean the lint filter, behind the dryer, and the hosing.

Deep Clean the Kitchen

If you did any cooking for the holidays, you might have stains and leftover food.  You can

  • Clean and dust drawers and cabinets
  • Get rid of expired foods
  • Throw out damaged Tupperware
  • De-grime backsplashes and hood vents
  • Clean and degrease the oven

Steam Carpets and Furniture

We have had a cold, wet, and muddy winter. Now is an excellent time to clean stains so that they do not settle. Make sure and wash or steam clean your rugs too!

Wash the Windows

Light can help you fight the winter blues, so make sure that your windows are clean so you can let the light shine in.  It is also a good time to wash all window treatments to get rid of allergens and dust.
