Six House Cleaning Tips for Flu Season

Posted on

Flu season?  How can it be?  Believe it or not, flu season in Oklahoma starts in October peaking in December, January, and February.  Here are a few house cleaning tips to protect your family this year.

Don’t forget the basics

We all know these – wash your hands, try not to touch your face or mouth, stay home if you are sick, and avoid sick people if you can.  These are the classics and should be practiced every flu season.

Don’t wear shoes in the house

Your shoes have picked up germs from every surface that you walked on that day so kick off your shoes when you walk in the house.  If you have little kids, spray their shoes and laces with disinfectant regularly. Try our recipe here for a great homemade all-purpose cleaner.

Disinfect light switches and doorknobs

Everyone touches them many times throughout the day.  The littles have done this after touching runny noses and covering coughs (hopefully). You can disinfect with wipes a couple of times a week.

Don’t put bags or purses on the counters

Like your shoes, bags and purses have been laying on the floor at schools, work, restaurants, restrooms, and all kinds of other places.  Designate a place in the house to store all of these, so they don’t spread germs into the house or onto kitchen counters.

Don’t forget to clean your electronics

TV remotes, phones, tablets, and computer keyboards may be touched by multiple family members each day.  If your hands go from the remote to your popcorn, to your mouth, you may be spreading germs without even thinking about it! Use disinfectant wipes regularly on household electronics.

A little cleaning goes a long way

Did you know that a kitchen sink can have more bacteria than a toilet?!  Regularly cleaning can keep germs at bay.  This is a great time to hire a cleaning service like 2 Green Chicks to help fight the flu in your home this year.
